Prepare the bath Prepare the water and get the temperature just right, not too hot nor too cold. Test the water with your elbow. This will show if it is just right for a newborn, it is best to bath the baby in their own small tub that you can place on a sturdy table where you can be comfortable.
Bathe the baby Holding your left arm under the baby's back to support the precious little one, your right hand will be free to first wash the face and then the head, neck, body and the arms. rinse off with with water in the tub. Another container of water at the right temperature along side the tub can be used to rinse the baby's head to make sure no shampoo or soap remains.
To assure your baby, talk to them in your low soothing voice, and this will help in promoting bath time as a joyful time for baby. At first, however, they will of course rebel, and may fuss a bit. Bath time will be a new experience, but as they grow into a toddler, it will be hard to even get them out of the bath tub.
Drying the baby with a CuddleCloth towel Drying the baby is the critical step, and this is where the fear comes in. Their slick little bodies can easily slip out of your arms, so it is important to get them into a towel as quickly as possible. CuddleCloth, a new product on the market, takes away this fear.
Once their head is covered with the towel and then the whole body is wrapped into a terry cloth towel, there is less danger of dropping them. The exact technique in doing this safely will come with practice.
After the ordeal of the bath is over, then the rest is easy. Take the baby to a bed or couch where clean clothes are waiting, then smear the little one with lotion, clean out his ears and nose with a gentle little baby swab.
Make sure the diaper area is clean and if there is any sign of redness, before diapering, smear on some type of protective ointment. This should not be left to bath time, however, but done checked after each diaper change, if necessary. The little behinds are tender and are easily chafed.
